Carr win drives innovation in data center industry

Datapod Managing Director and Chief Architect Scott Carr was announced as the winner of the Eastern Region EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2014 – Technology Category, at a gala event in Sydney overnight.

Mr Carr joined other outstanding entrepreneurs from across New South Wales and ACT and will now represent the region at the upcoming National Awards to be held in November this year.

An engineer by trade, Mr Carr knew there had to be a better way of addressing the high costs and risks associated with traditional data center construction. As a result Mr Carr established Datapod in 2007 and began manufacturing scalable modular data centers for worldwide application. Datapod now provides modular data center infrastructure to support advanced cloud computing environments and exports to Northern America, the Asia Pacific and Europe with other geographic markets to come online in the next 18 months.

Mr Carr compares the modularization of the data center market to how Henry Ford standardized the car industry. This standardization allows Datapod to provide data center infrastructure that is more affordable, more energy efficient and drives better outcomes for our customers. The Datapod System allows for rapid deployment as it is shipped to site fully completed, tested and ready for operation.

Mr Carr said, “You could say we are becoming the CIO’s best friend.”

In recent industry research the global modular data center market is expected to grow to $40.41 billion by 2018, at an estimated CAGR of 37.41% from 2013 to 2018 on the back of technology becoming more ubiquitous and the need for more scalable and flexible data center infrastructure.

Mr Carr said, “This announcement was somewhat of a surprise. To be mentioned in such an elite field of entrepreneurs is an achievement, but to win and now represent the region at the National Awards is an absolute honour.”
